Kit list:

Waterproof jacket with hood, waterproof leggings, hat, gloves, suitable footwear, map (O.S. Outdoor Leisure 1 (Dark Peak Area)), compass, and emergency food. Registration at Crow Edge Community Centre (GR SE 179 052) Transport will be provided to the start from registration. Start (GR SE 201011) on track in Woods across main road from Iron Gate Car Park, Flouch (GR SE 201012). Cross road with care – this road is very busy.
  1. Follow the path through woods down to stone bridge (GR SE 197 006).
  2. Pass over bridge and go through gate, then turn left on rocky path winding up to onto open moor and across Hingcliff common (bearing of 1950), pass first path from left. Path dips down then back up to reach a junction with a second path from left.
  3. Keep right, continuing uphill following the path along Mickledon Edge (bearing of 1600) and Cut Gate. Path gradually swings round to bearing 2100 uphill to stone cairn on brow of hill.
CHECKPOINT B (GR SK 185 960) DISTANCE:  5.76 KM (Opens 08.55) This section can be very boggy, you will need to traverse around some of the boggy areas, but ensure you always return to the path which does exist the whole way across this moor.
  1. Turn right taking path at bearing of 3100 and progress across Featherbed Moss to trig point at Outer Edge (541M, GR SK177969).
  2. Follow path along watershed crossing Harden Moss swinging gradually round from a bearing of 3400 to 2750 until you reach small stone cairn at Loftshaw Clough Head (GR SK 144 986)
CHECKPOINT C (GR SK 144 986) DISTANCE:  11.21 KM (Opens 09.50)
  1. Turn right taking path due North. After 1.25k, reach remains of Lady Cross, on brow of hill (GR SK 148 998).
  2. Turn right on green track (bearing 650) to reach gate and stile and busy main road (Lasche).
CHECKPOINT D FOOD & DRINK (GR SE 155 000) DISTANCE: 13.21 KM (Opens 10.00) CAUTION – VERY BUSY ROAD. CROSS WITH CARE.
  1. Go straight across the road, through gate follow path bearing 328° going gradually downhill.
  2. Cross stream (GR SE152007), continue on footpath following posts marked ‘B’ (Barnsley boundary walk).  Go through wooden gate marked ‘B’ in corner of field up to left.
10. Follow path downhill. Cross stream (GR SE149008) continue on path. Cross another stream (GR SE 148 009) and uphill to the road. 11. Go through gate (GR SE 148 015), turn right down road.

Beware of traffic on road

12. Go down road to car park entrance 500 metres on left. 13. Follow entrance towards sailing club. Right across dam wall just before sailing club entrance. 14. Left at end of dam wall and alongside reservoir with water to your left. 15. On to road 500 metres, checkpoint on left across from houses. CHECKPOINT E (GR SE 151 038) DISTANCE: 17.8 KM (Opens 10.30) 16. Follow path through old quarry area to road (GR SE 143042), left and across road, then right into woods (gate) 17. Down through woodland path to “Church” artwork (GR SE 138048), turn right (bearing 22O). 18. At small reservoir, right and up track 200 metres, then right up steep slope, over style and follow path up through field to road. 19. Right up road into Hade Edge. 20. Straight on at cross road in village down to main road opposite sailing club. 21. Right up Snittle road (unmade road, not main road) 500 metrres CHECKPOINT F (GR SE 149 050) DISTANCE: 22.1 KM (Opens 10.40) 22. Then left on path across fields to road.

23. Across main road and follow path across fields (Ing Royd) then left to lane. 24. Turn right and follow lane round to junction of 3 roads and a track (GR SE159058). Go straight on up Ox Lee Lane (track) to top and finish. 25.03 KM Cross road and follow flags to finish at Community Centre
