In the UK, mountain rescue teams are manned by volunteers and funded entirely by fundraising and donations, without which they could not continue to provide their vital service to us. The aim of WMRT Supporters Group is to provide support to WMRT, allowing operational members to focus on helping those in difficulty on the hills, and helping to keep the team ready to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, whatever the weather There are always jobs to be done! Supporters can assist the team in many ways, from becoming a Friend, receiving our newsletters or displaying a car sticker, to making a donation or helping in more practical ways. There is no minimum time commitment required, and no minimum age to join, though under-18s must be accompanied by an adult. For those who are keen to help to shape the supporters group, our core volunteers meet at the team training HQ on the last Monday of every month, but most people choose to have a more casual involvement with the group. We welcome all contributions, ideas, time or money, no matter how big or small. Perhaps you would like to get involved with fundraising, either helping with collections at local events, hosting a box, or arranging an event of your own? If you enjoy the great outdoors, perhaps you’d like to act as a lost or injured casualty for team training exercises? Perhaps your kills lie in helping to maintain our premises and kit, or providing administrative support for the team. All of these jobs are vital in maintaining the high standards of this voluntary organisation.
Whatever you have to offer, we will be delighted to hear from you. We hope that you’ll gain a lot from working with us too, with opportunities to get to know the team, work in the local community, enhance your CV, work towards Duke of Edinburgh Awards, make new friends, and perhaps learn new skills like basic life support and radio communications or safety on the hill. If you have suggestions, time or a skill that you would like to share with the team, if you’re looking for something new to join, or even if you’d just like to find out more or keep in touch, please email the supporters group co-ordinator[email protected]
