Our team vehicles have to be ready and available for use 24/7, and keeping them ready for action can be quite challenging. Today our control vehicle “Mobile 2” has been in the garage for a new exhaust fitting. Whilst fitting a new exhaust is normally straightforward, this vehicle presents a few challenges. Firstly, it’s quite a tall vehicle, so there not many garages that it can drive into. The only way we could drive it onto the ramps at ATS and clear the roof supports was with the help of three fairly heavy bodies stood on the tailgate while I drove it on to the ramp, otherwise the rear blue lights would have fouled the roof supports. Also, it’s not the lightest of vehicles either, weighing in at around 4 tonnes ( It’s an ex-police armoured riot van) and it was right up at the limit of what the ramp could lift. Once we got it onto the ramp, replacing the exhaust was relatively straightforward, and the vehicle is once again fully operational, and will be supporting the Steel City downhill mountain bike race tomorrow.
