October Training Highlights: Mountain Rescue Team’s Progress

Three new members on the Peak District foundation course, a joint rope rescue exercise with Glossop MRT in the Black Cloughs, and a search management course.

October has been quiet for incidents, but team members have been busy with training courses to ensure we are ready to respond 24/7/365 to a whole variety of different incidents.
This has included 3 of our newer team members attending the Peak District Foundation Course where they had the opportunity to consolidate skills over the weekend whilst sharing experience with other local mountain rescue teams.

Also, in October we held a joint exercise with our friends at Glossop Mountain Rescue to practice rescuing casualties in the steep terrain around The Black Cloughs. This area sits on the operational boundary between the two teams and provides very challenging conditions for the extraction of casualties who can’t walk, with narrow steep paths and long stretcher carries. This exercise was a great opportunity to get to know fellow mountain rescuers and learn about each team’s rope systems allowing us to work seamlessly together on joint rescues.

Meanwhile other team members participated in a search management course run by The Centre for Search Research, highlighting the role of mountain rescue in searching for vulnerable missing people in both rural and urban areas.
