Incident 2026-68: Mountain biker injured, Wharncliffe Woods

Soon after we had restocked the vehicles from our first call of the afternoon at Greno Woods, a second call came in for a mountain biker who had fallen in Wharncliffe Woods. After treatment by Yorkshire Ambulance Service and one of our Remote Rescue Medical Technicians, the casualty was secured in a vacuum mattress and carefully lowered down the steep slope to the ambulance.

Incident 2026-67: Mountain biker injured, Greno Woods

Mountain rescue volunteers carry injured rider from Greno Woods

After a quiet start to October, we were called out twice in quick succession to the mountain bike trails at Greno Woods and Wharncliffe. In the first, in the early afternoon, a mountain biker was hurt coming off the Bottom Gap Jump at Greno Woods. After Yorkshire Ambulance Service assessed their injuries, we secured them in our vacuum mattress, moved them onto our rescue stretcher and carried them to the ambulance at the roadhead.
