2023 Incidents

2023-80: SYP 364 Missing Walker Cut Gate (Search)

The second callout of New Years Eve was to a woman who had become lost whilst walking on Cut Gate. She was located by her husband who had been searching for her and we escorted them both to safety.

This incident involved 17 team members, and 27.2 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 1.6 hours.

2023-79: YAS 14684352 MTB Wharncliffe Woods (Snatch)

Our first call of New Years Eve was to a mountain biker who had fallen from his bike in Wharncliffe Woods sustaining a shoulder injury. We administered first aid and transported him back to the ambulance.  

This incident involved 21 team members, and 50.4 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 2.4 hours.

2023-77: YAS 14659765 57 YOF leg Injury (Snatch)

A 57 YOM had fallen in woods near Chapeltown sustaining a leg injury. He was treated on scene by YAS and WMRT personnel and taken back to the ambulance

2023-76: YAS 14635144 27 YOM Knee Fracture (snatch)

We were called by Yas to a young man who had fallen and dislocated his knee on a footpath near Agden Reservoir. We attended the scene and recovered the casualty to the road head.

This incident involved 7 team members, and 16.1 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 2.3 hours.

2023-75: DPOL 815 Walkers stranded in Blacks (Snatch)

We were called by Derbyshire Police to help located two persons who had become stranded between Middle and far black cloughs to to rising water levels in the river. We called in Glossop MRT for assistance and they were quickly located on the other side of the ford and escorted to safety.

2023-74: SYP538 Male found in road (Snatch)

Whilst on his way to our HQ to deliver a first aid training session, one of our team members came across a 79 YOM wandering in a confused state on Mortimer Road. It transpired that his car had gone through a wall and rolled down the hill. He took him to our base, called an ambulance, and handed him over to the crew.

2023-73: DPOL 944 Missing walkers Salters Brook (Search)

We were called by SYP to help locate three people who had got lost while looking for their dog which had wandered off. As the search commenced, we were told that they had managed to self rescue and find their way back to the cars along with the missing dog.

This incident involved 16 team members, and 38.4 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 2.4 hours.

2023-72: YAS 07400647576 MTB GRENO WOODS (Snatch)

We were called to another 12 YOM who had come off hi bike in Greno Woods. As we were wrapping up that job, we were informed of a second casualty lower down the track who had sustsained chest injuries and was having breathing difficulties. A second ambulance was requested and both casualties were evacuated swiftly.

2023-71: YAS 14549579 MTB GRENO WOODS (Snatch)

We attended a 12 YOM who had crashed his Mountain bike in Greno Woods. He was treated on scene and swiftly transferred to the ambulance.

2023-70: YAS 14530405 Male fallen in water (Snatch)

We received a call from YAS regarding a 60 YOM who had fallen into the water in Sheffield. This job however was well inside Edale's territory, so the job was passed over to them.

2023-69: DPOL 603 Lost Walker (Search)

We were called by the duty controller to a fell runner who had become lost near high stones, on Derwent Edge. As the most direct route to his location was from the Derwent valley, the job was passed to Edale MRT.

An 82 YOM had fallen in a field injuring his lower leg. We were low on numbers due to it being a mid weeks call, so we requested help from Edale MRT, who helped us recover the casualty to the ambulance.

A 67 YOF had collapsed in Langsett woods displaying possible symptoms of fitting. She was treated on scene by YAS paramedics and we stretchered her off to the ambulance.

A 13 YOM fell off his mountain bike in Greno woods injuring both his wrists. We walked him back to our team vehicle and transported him back to the ambulance.

We were called to search for a missing person near Doncaster. Before we could deploy, he was found by South Yorkshire Police.

2023-64: YAS 14353045 MTB GRENO WOODS (Snatch)

An 11 YOM Mountain biker came off his bike on the steel city run and the brake lever penetrated his leg. We attended the scene along with a YAS ambulance crew and safely transported him to the ambulance.

2023-63: YAS 14332883 Male assaulted Brookhouse Bridge (Snatch)

We assisted SYP and YAS evacuate a 54 YOM who had been assaulted at Brookhouse Bridge near Langsett. Despite being badly injured, the man manged to walk off to the ambulance.

We were called again to Greno Woods for a 26 YOM who had fallen from his mountain bike on the Steel City Run sustaining a broken collar bone. His arm was splinted and he was walked off to our team vehicle, and then transported to hospital by a friend.

Another call to Greno Woods for a mountain bike injury. The rider had take a 3mtr fall sustaining serious injuries to his hips and Pelvis.

We assisted Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team with the extraction of a patient from a field near Shepley.

2023-59: SYP 353 of 1809 Sheep Rescue (Snatch)

We were called by South Yorkshire police after a member of the public spotted a sheep which had become stranded in water below the weir at Brookhouse bridge. We deployed our water team who safely brought the sheep back to dry land.

2023-58: YAS 14274372 MTB Wharncliffe Woods (Snatch)

We were called by YAS to a 34 YOF who had fallen from her mountain bike, fracturing her ankle in Wharncliffe woods. We treated her injury and she was taken to hospital by her partner due to lack of ambulance resources.

We assisted Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team with the evacuation of a female who had fallen into a river near Meltham.

2023-56: YAS 14244761 Injuered Female walker, South Anston (Snatch)

We were called by YAS to a lady who had fallen in woodland near South Anston, injuring her lower leg. Together with YAS ambulance personnel we treated her injury and evacuated her on a stretcher back to the ambulance.

2023-55: SYP 216 Misper Search (Search)

We were tasked by South Yorkshire police to search for a missing vulnerable female in woods near Blaxton. She was later found deceased by Police officers.

This incident involved 11 team members, and 62.7 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 5.7 hours.

2023-54: YAS 14196152 MTB GRENO WOODS (Snatch)

We were called back to Grno woods again, this time for a 14 YOM who had come off his mountain bike fracturing his ankle. He was given pain relief by the YAS crew and transported to the ambulance in our Team Vehicle.

Another call to Greno woods for a 43 yom who had fallen from his mountain bike injuring his knee and arm.

We were called by YAS to a mountain biker who had crashed his bike in the ever popular Greno Woods sustaining leg injuries. He was transported to the Ambulance after being treated by Paramedics.

We assisted Holme Valley MRT and Calder Valley MRT in a search for a missing person in Leeds who was later found deceased.

2023-50: YAS 14118096 22 YOM Leg Injury (Snatch)

Whilst conducting team training at our HQ, we were called by YAS to a 22 YOM who had fallen in woodland near Oughtibridge, sustaining a leg injury. He was evacuated by stretcher over very difficult terrain.

We assisted Holme Valley MRT with the extraction of a mountain biker who had fallen from his bike, hitting a tree.

A 57 YOF had been knocked over by a dog and sustained a lower leg injury. Due to the steep ground in the are , we were asked by YAS to assist with her recovery.

We were called by YAS to a motor cyclist who had fallen from his bike in woodland. After treating his injuries we carried him off on our stretcher to the ambulance.

We were called by YAS to a 21 YOM who had been struck by lightening whilst walking through a field near Barnsley. We assisted the ambulance crew with a very difficult extraction across difficult terrain.

We were called to assist Holme Valley MRT evacuate a 64 YOF who had fallen down a banking in Holmfirth.

We responded to a call for assistance by Holme Valley MRT to extract an injured youth from woods near Huddersfield.

We were asked by YAS to attend a person who had fallen in a field near Edlington sustaining lower leg injuries. However, the Ambulance crew managed to reach the patient and we were stood down on route.

A 15 YOM fell 20ft breaking his ankle and injuring his spine. We attended the scene along with other resources from YAS and evacuated him by stretcher to the ambulance.

We were called to assist a YAS crew evacuate an 11 YOM who had fallen from his mountain bike in woods near Chapletown, Sheffield. We carried him out on the stretcher, using ropes for safety on some areas of steep ground.

A young male fell off his Mountain bike in disused quarries near Conisbrough. We despatched Mobile 2 who's crew assisted the ambulance personnel in treating and evacuating the casualty.

As the team were finishing a rockwork exercise, a call came from YAS for a 24 YOM Mountain biker who had fallen from his bike in Wharncliffe Woods injuring his left shoulder. The team were quickly on scene and stretchered him off to the Ambulance.

2029-99: DPOL781 High Risk Misper (Unknown)

All PDMRO teams were asked to keep an eye out for a missing van belonging to a vulnerable male who had gone missing from home. One of our Team Member spotted the van in the Derwent Valley and the man was subsequently found deceased after a search by Edale MRT.

We were asked to assist Holme Valley MRT with the recovery of a 69 YOF who had fallen on a disused railway line in Lockwood, Huddersfield.

A 73 YOF had slipped and broken her ankle whilst walking in Langsett Woods. We were quickly on scene and treated the lady then stretchered her off to the ambulance.

We were called by YAS to the location of the previous phone find as they thought that they would need our assistance in getting the casualty out of the woods. However as we were nearing the site we were stood down as the ambulance crew had managed to get to her.

We were asked to assist YAS paramedics recover a 17 YO female patient who had sufered a dislocated hip in woods near Wath upon Dearne.

We were called by YAS to a 45YOM who was unconscious on a footpath near Dodworth. However we were stood down almost immediately as members of the public assisted the ambulance crew to evacuate him to the ambulance.

Whilst providing safety cover for an event at Rother Valley Country Park. Team members attended to a 60 YOF who had sustained injuries to her lower leg. She was treated by our Casualty Carers and was driven to Hospital by a friend.

An 18 YOF had fallen from her mountain bike in Wharncliffe Woods, dislocating her shoulder. She was treated on scene and managed to walk off to the ambulance.

2023-25: NWAS 27240500 GMRT assist Fallen Walker Middle Bla (Snatch)

Glossop MRT requested our help in rescuing a woman who had suffered a back injury whilst walking in Middle Black Clough. She was treated on scene and evacuated by the Coastguard S92 Helicopter.

2023-24: wyp 0864 Assist HVMRT with Misper search (Search)

We were asked to assist Holme Valley MRT with a search for a missing vulnerable male near Newmillerdam. The man was later found deceased in a wood nearby.

This incident involved 4 team members, and 17.6 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 4.4 hours.

2023-23: SYP118 UXB demolition (UXB)

Whilst out on a search exercise near Margery Hill, one of our Team Members spotted an unexploded WW2 shell which looked as though it might contain explosive. We called the police and the MOD, who accompanied us to the incident site where the shell was detonated safely by the MOD. If you see anything like this on the moors, please do not touch it. Make a note of the location and call the police.

2023-22: YAS 13812298 MTB GRENO WOODS (Snatch)

A 14 YOM mountain  biker had fallen from his bike on the popular Steel City run in Grenoside Woods, sustaining injuries to his lower leg. We were quickly on scene and together with the YAS crew, treated him and carried him back to the ambulance.

2023-21: 01754 HVMRT Assist. Fire at Pule Hill (Moorland Fire)

Second call of the day to assist HVMRT with providing safety cover for the fire crews.

We assisted HVMRT in providing safety cover for fire crews tackling a moorland fire outside Marsden.

2023-19: YAS 13798366 Male fallen 200ft (Snatch)

A 76 YOM had fallen from crags in Abbey Brook sustaining fatal injuries. Together with Edale MRT we recovered his body and transported it to the road head where it was handed over to Undertakers.

2023-18: SYP 689 Missing Vulnerable Child (Search)

We were tasked by South Yorkshire Police to search for a missing vulnerable 14 YOM who had not returned home from school. We searched the area around Penistone and following sightings by the public he was found safe and well some distance away on the Woodhead Pass.

This incident involved 26 team members, and 91 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 3.5 hours.

2023-17: SYP 925 Lost Walker (Snatch)

We were called by South Yorkshire POlice to find a man who was reported to be lost and benighted in the Black Cloughs area. He was quickly located using Phone Find and escorted off the hill to safety.

2023-16: SYP 814 Missing vulnerable female (Search)

We were aske by South Yorkshire Police to assist with a search for a missing 33 YOF who had a history of suicide attempts. As we were starting to deploy, she was found some distance away safe and well.

2023-15: 01743 MTB GRENO WOODS (Snatch)

We were called by YAS to a mountain biker who had crashed only 100m from the site of our last job in Greno woods, sustaining similar injuries to his hip and lower leg. He was given pain relief by the ambulance crew and we stretchered him off to the Ambulance.

2023-14: YAS 13740582 MTB GRENO WOODS (Snatch)

  Called by YAS to a Mountain bike crash in Greno Woods. The 35 YOM sustained injuries to his Pelvis and lower back, plus some grazes. He was treated by YAS and we carried him off on the stretcher to the ambulance.

We were called by YAS to a female who had fallen from her mountain bike in Sheffield, injuring her hip. However she managed to walk to the ambulance and we were stood down on route

A 33 YOM had fallen down a banking near a river in Sprotbrough, South Yorkshire, sustaining leg and wrist injuries. Together with Fire and Rescue and HART we extracted him by stretcher and carried him to the ambulance.

We were called by YAS to a 14 YOM who had fallen from his Mountain Bike in Greno Woods sustaining head Injuries. As we were deploying, we were stood down by YAS after the boy recovered sufficiently to walk out unaided.

2023-09: YAS 13628588 71 YOF Seizure in Langsett Woods (Snatch)

A 71 YOF had collapsed in Langsett Woods following a seizure. We were called by YAS ad were on scene within minutes. The ambulance was able to get to the casualty and she was swiftly treated and evacuated.

2023-08: WYP 1927 HVMRT ASSIST Dewsbury (Search)

We were asked to assist HVMRT in a search for a 47 YOM missing from home in Dewsbury. Several areas were searched around the river and canal but nothing was found.

2023-07: YAS 13598323 52 YOM fallen TPT Worsbrough (Snatch)

We were asked by YAS to attend to a 52 YOM who had fallen on the Trans Pennine Trail near Worsbrough, injuring his arm. When we arrived, we were able to drive to the casualty and treat him on scene before taking him back to the Ambulance at the road head in our vehicle.

2023-06: YAS 13554962 HVMRT ASSIST (Snatch)

One of our deputy TL's was called by a friend who had come across a lady who had been knocked over by a dog on Meltham Mills Reservoir. He alerted Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team and together with one of our members, evacuated the casualty to the ambulance.

2023-05: YAS 13550098 MTB Plank Gate (Snatch)

We were called by YAS to an 18 YOM mountain biker who had fallen from his bike hitting the ground face first. He had briefly been unconscious and had suffered facial injuries, but we were able to walk him out to the ambulance.

2023-04: YAS 13539582 67 YOM fallen off bike in wood (Snatch)

We were called by YAS to a 67 YOM who had fallen from his Mountain bike in woods near Doncaster. After much difficulty we managed to fix his location and report it to the YAS crew who managed to pick him up and walk him to the road.

This incident involved 10 team members, and 15 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 1.5 hours.

2023-03: YAS 13525163 80 YOF fallen above Agden Res (Snatch)

We were called by YAS to an 80 YOF who had fallen whilst out walking above Agden Reservoir injuring her lower leg. Because of low numbers due to the time of day, we called in Edale MRT to help us. She was treated on scene and evacuated by stretcher.

This incident involved 6 team members, and 10.8 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 1.8 hours.

2023 - 02: DPOL 465 Injured Walker Derwent Edge (Snatch)

We were called to assist Edale MRT with the extraction of a female walker who had fallen on Derwent Edge near the Salt Cellar. When we arrived, the air ambulance had already landed and she was evacuated by air to the hospital.

This incident involved 7 team members, and 15.4 man hours of effort. Elapsed time 2.2 hours.

2023-01: WYP 1370 HVMRT ASSIST (Snatch)

We were called to assist HVMRT with the extractoion of a female who had suffered a serious leg injury near Marsden. Due to the diddficulty of the terrain, she was evacuated by Helicopter and then transferred to an Ambulnce.
